The Home Of The World's Fastest Car

It’s something Raphanel has clearly seen (and heard) a good few times before. He turns to me with a knowing smile when he finally lifts off, stating that the Veyron has that effect on everyone. He clearly enjoys his job demonstrating it, too. Still travelling at a speed that the Gendarmes wouldn’t find remotely amusing he gives me a second or two to compose myself before pummelling me again. This time he’s hit the brakes. Without warning I’m flung against my seatbelt, the Veyron’s enormous carbon ceramic discs combining with the airbrake to produce 2G of braking force, removing all that momentum as quickly as the W16 engine created it.

Car Action Camera

Capturing your track day antics on film is a great way to relive the excitement - and the Action Camera is the perfect tool for the job. Unlike rivals, it has a built-in 32MB flash memory to record the footage, so you don't need a separate hard drive. Memory is expandable with SD cards and it can be strapped pretty much anywhere. The rubberised shell protects it from bumps, it's splash-proof and downloading images is easy via the supplied USB cable.

Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6

Chrysler Crossfire

The Chrysler Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive, sports car marketed by Chrysler as both coupé and roadster and built for Chrysler by Karmann of Germany.

Design

The two-seater arrived in 2001 as a concept car designed by Eric Stoddard with further refinement by Andrew Dyson before production in 2003.The Crossfire's fastback roof and broad rear fenders made for a rear end design that prompted automotive journalists to describe the new car's resemblance to American Motor's 1965-1967 Marlin. For example, Rob Rothwell wrote ...when I first espied the rear lines of the Chrysler Crossfire I was instantly transported back to 1965 and my favorite car of that year, the Rambler Marlin
The name Crossfire refers to the two character lines that run from front to rear along the body sides — crossing each other midway through the door panel. Conceived during the period of Chrysler's ownership by Daimler-Benz, the name also refers to the collaboration of the two companies.

Construction and features

The Crossfire shares 59%[citation needed] of its components with other Mercedes models. The chassis is a combination of a modified C-class engine compartment, pre-2003 SLK platform, S-Class rear linkages and new stampings for the side rails and rear.
The standard transmission is a 6-speed manual with an optional 5-speed automatic. Base (Standard) and Limited models, originally sold beginning in the 2004 model year, are equipped with a 3.2 L, 18-valve, SOHC V6 engine which produces 215 hp (160 kW) and 229 lb·ft (310 N·m) of torque.

Saleen S5S Raptor

The Saleen S5S Raptor is a sports car revealed by Saleen, Inc. on 20 March 2008 at the 2008 New York International Auto Show. It is intended to be equipped with a Saleen 5.0 liter supercharged engine (similar to that used on the 2008 S302E) which will yield 650hp, capable of accelerating the car to 60mph in 3.2 seconds or less. The Raptor is expected to complete the 1/4 mile in 10.9 seconds. It is projected to retail for $185,000, roughly $400,000 less than the S7. Possible production may start in 2010, the Raptor represents a collaboration between Saleen's engineering team and the design group at ASC. Both companies are owned by Hancock Park Associates, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm.

2008 Ducati 848

Ducati has introduced their 2008 lineup and the 2008 Ducati 848 breaks cover with a 134 horsepower engine in a 369 pound package, giving the 848 a better power to weight ratio than the 999. Looks like a nice addition to their middleweight models. The words ‘agile’ and ‘refined’ aptly describe the 848. At 168 kg (369 lbs) the 848 is an amazing 20 kg (44 lbs) lighter than its predecessor, and a significant 5 kg (11 lbs) lighter than its larger capacity brother, the 1098.The highly advanced 848 engine uses an improved method of engine case production in which cases are vacuum die-cast formed. While providing significant weight savings of more than 3 kg (6.5 lbs), this method also ensures consistent wall thickness and increased strength. Further refinements include a sophisticated wet clutch that offers 1 kg (2.2 lbs) less weight, a much higher service life, improved clutch feel and quiet operation.

The car also proves to be particularly efficientaerodynamically with a spectacular Cd of 0.27 which positively influences theeconomic, dynamic and acoustic qualities of the car. Both body variants haveidentical 4.830 mm length and share the same wheelbase of 2,737 mm.

2009 Opel Insignia

The Insignia is offered from the start with front-wheel and all-wheel drive. The “Adaptive 4X4” system’s proactive, instantaneous torque distribution not only ensures optimal traction but also enhances driving stability and dynamic handling performance. In the all-wheel drive Insignia, the FlexRide mechatronic chassis system with its Adaptive Stability Technology helps the car adjust to prevailing driving conditions and allows the driver to select settings to match his mood. FlexRide is also available in the front-wheel version.

The Insignia will launch with an exceptionally broad range of seven engines. All meet Euro 5 emissions standards and come with either manual or automatic six-speed transmissions. The four gasoline engines range from a four-cylinder 115 hp unit to a V6 with 260 hp. The three new direct-injection diesels feature a displacement of 2.0 liter and outputs spanning from 110 to 160 hp. Subsequently the Insignia engine line-up will be expanded with an EcoFLEX version offering very low CO2 emissions in addition to other, more powerful variants.
The entry-level model – the four-door sedan with the 115 hp 1.6 ECOTEC gasoline engine – costs just 22,700 euros. Compared to the competition, pricing for the diesels is also extremely reasonable in Germany, with the 110 hp 2.0 CDTI starting at 24,300 euros. Standard equipment is extensive, with the entry-level models boasting air conditioning, CD-radio, on-board computer, electric height adjustment for the driver’s seat, as well as ESP and traction control.

2010 Opel Astra

Opel will unveil the fourth generation Astra next year in March, most probably at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was already caught at testing, and is set to be sold all over the globe - it will be sold under the Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Saturn logos.

Opel will also work on a VXR version of the 2010 Astra. The vehicle is going to be powered by a new 1.8 liter engine capable to develop 240 hp. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph will be made in less than 6 seconds while the top speed will be somewhere around 155 mph.
The 2010 Astra will be offered as a three and five door hatchback, an estate version (Caravan), a convertible version (Twin Top) and also a three-doors GTC. All this will be available after the five-doors version will make its official debut.
The production of the 2010 Astra will be moved from the Antwerp plant, Belgium, to Swedish Saab unit, Trollhattan. Reason: better productivity and 25% less production costs.

Mazda Goes Diesel

The company that keeps you grinning with MX-5 Miatas and MazdaSpeed 3--and is bringing the Kiyora concept pictured here to the Paris Motor Show next month--will match the new Mercedes-Benz unit in both cylinder count and displacement. The Mazda MZR-CD 2.2-liter turbocharged clean diesel four doesn't make as much power as the new knockout from Benz, but 182 horsepower and 295 lb-ft are both more horsepower, and way more torque, than the frisky 2.0-liter unit in the Miata. And 42 U.S. mpg is positively Prius-like.
